It’s difficult to attribute a specific genre to the game “Quarantine” for Panasonic 3DO; it’s a mix of racing and shooter genres. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic style. As a taxi driver, you must pick up people, earn money to upgrade your car, and purchase weapons. At that time, the game was very brutal; it was possible to shoot people, blood splattered everywhere, etc. The game was developed by Imagexcel in 1994 for 3DO and MS-DOS. Later, in 1996, the game was adapted by Asmik for Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn, exclusively for the Japanese market. The title of the game for these consoles was changed to “Hard Rock Cab” and “Death Throttle.”
Like Detroit, KEMO city was also known as the automobile capital, meeting the country’s automotive needs until 2022. Over time, crime rates increased, the economy collapsed, and the city descended into riots. Criminals roamed around the city in armored vehicles on air cushions, scaring residents and showing no fear of retaliation. In 2029, OmniCorp Corporation promised city officials that they could cleanse KEMO and return it to normal life. The proposal was accepted, and the company began to build a large wall around the city under the guise of “protective measures.” Three years later, the wall was completed, and the only way out was blocked, turning KEMO into a prison city for everyone inside.
Ten years later, in 2043, OmniCorp decided to test the residents’ reaction to the chemical element Hydergine 344. This chemical was supposed to satisfy the citizens of KEMO. The toxin spread through the water supply. Unfortunately, OmniCorp did not contain the chemical reaction in stagnant water. It caused damage to the brain, leading many residents of the city to madness. Most of the population became insane killers.
Drake Edgewater, the taxi driver of the 21st century, is the lucky person untouched by the spreading virus. He delivers customers and hopes to find a way out of the city.
