**Snow Brothers 2: With New Elves** is an action game developed by Syrmex Electronics and released in 2002 for arcade machines.
### Overview
The game is an extensive hack of the original **Snow Bros.**, which was released by Toaplan in 1990. In this hack, you will play as generic characters who love football: Player 1 wears the national team jersey of Mexico, while Player 2 wears the national team jersey of South Korea. There isn’t a specific story that differs from the original game; however, the gameplay largely remains the same.
### Trivia
Aside from Toaplan closing its doors in 1994, many individuals went on to establish their own companies, such as Raizing/Eighting, Cave, Takumi, and Gazelle. However, due to its highly addictive gameplay, **Snow Bros.** was frequently downloaded in its original form by various companies worldwide. Many companies, like SunA and SemiCom, started running their games on hardware similar to **Snow Bros.**, and sometimes these games became exclusive from Asia (particularly South Korea and China).
However, since piracy has been rampant in countries like many Latin American nations, a company from Mexico named **Syrmex Electronics** initially developed its own hack of **Snow Bros.**, originally titled **Snow Brothers 3: Prehistoric Adventure**. With the approach of the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in Japan and South Korea, they changed the name to **Snow Brothers 3: Magical Adventure** and released it to promote the event. This is why the characters turn enemies into footballs instead of snowballs. The game quickly became popular in Mexico, as the country rarely made games on its own.
The game features recycled assets from various other games and even wallpapers found on the internet. For example, in Stage 20, there is a Spawn wallpaper in the background where the player fights against the second boss; in Stage 30, the third boss’s enemies are Cacodemons from **Doom** and **Doom II: Hell on Earth**, which spit out fish instead of birds; in Stage 40, the background wallpaper features a Ghost Rider; the Game Over screen contains a skull on a star circle; and finally, there is a group of women in lingerie that was likely taken from an adult website.
**Snow Brothers 3: Magical Adventure** features original music, but the music is played through a PCM audio chip instead of using the FM sound chip (YM3812) used in the original game. However, the music used comes from MIDI files and is converted from the game sound chip format. There is also a title screen hack of a game called **Ball Boy**, which does not display the developer or publisher on the screen.
