An exciting 2D fighting game, featuring new capabilities of the Sega Genesis’ 32-bit add-on, brings new features and effects to the fighting game genre. It is used during zooming (zoom in/zoom out). Additionally, various effects that were previously impossible or very difficult to implement have been included. It became possible not only to scale the character but also to change body parts to more advanced ones. The game resembles the Fatality Finishings that Sega previously used in Eternal Champions, which were popularized by Midway Games in the Mortal Kombat series.
The game itself is well-crafted with an excellent plot. In an unknown star system on the way to space mines, a group of prisoners collected from different galaxies stages a rebellion and takes control of the spacecraft by defeating the guards. However, the ship’s control was significantly damaged during the initial escape.
After being adrift in open space for days, the criminals realize that their only hope is to seize another spacecraft, and they send a distress signal to call a battleship for help. They then deceive another spacecraft and collide with it. However, the collision nearly completely destroys the ship and kills almost everyone except for a small group of four from each ship. Only one small lifeboat survived. The survivors are now fighting to the death for their only chance of escape.
The Japanese version of the game, Cyber Brawl, is significantly different from Cosmic Carnage because it features three additional fighters. These are anime-style characters. This version of the game is bloodier, so if you enjoy that in games, it is preferable to play the Japanese version.
In Japan, the game was released under the name Cyber Brawl. In Europe and the United States, it was titled Cosmic Carnage.
