Although the game is similar to its predecessor Brutal: Paws of Fury, it is actually an extension, meaning it is essentially the second part of the game. In Brutal Unleashed: Above the Claw, the action takes place four years after the main storyline of the first part of the Paws of Fury tournament. Participants return to Brutal Island (the Island of Brutality) to once again discover who the strongest in battle is and will fight against Dali Llama himself for the Heaven Belt. The tournament also serves as an opportunity for Lama to check which of the warriors possesses the warrior spirit.
The game has changed significantly; the graphics have improved, the animations have become smoother, and the sound has reached a new level. However, the core gameplay has remained the same; after a successful fight, you are trained with a new technique. The characters in the game have remained the same, and you can now play as two new characters, Chung Poe and Psycho Kitty, in addition to Dali Llama.
