Tecmo World Cup Soccer is a video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Released by Tecmo in 1990, it is a soccer game focused on the World Cup, as the name suggests. It is a port of Tehkan World Cup, which was released in arcades in 1985. Although the two games look almost identical, Tecmo World Cup Soccer lacks the speed and fluidity of its arcade ancestor. While the gameplay appears unchanged, the absence of analog control support in the NES version makes it a game that requires almost entirely different tactics, becoming a strictly digital-controlled game. Tecmo World Cup Soccer should not be confused with Nintendo World Cup (released the same year) or Tecmo Cup Soccer Game (known as Captain Tsubasa in Japan).
