One year after the emergence of coin-op, Data East developed Diet Go Go, one of its arcade games. It’s not exactly a sequel to the story, but it plays largely the same way, returning to a few entities from the previous game and even having some of the same tricks, so it can be considered more of a “spiritual sequel” than a completely new property. As the introduction shows, the main antagonist is the same mad scientist from Tumblepop (and other Data East games like Spinmaster), who initiates a nearly diabolical plan to make everyone in the world extremely fat. The only connection between the title and the gameplay is the need for heroes to move in the opposite direction to defeat enemies in order to prevent the obesity plague. The playable characters, a boy and a girl, look and dress like a couple of 80s aerobic video rejects, hitting the bad guys with pellets that first make them fat before grotesquely inflating them, at which point they start to float like balloons and can be pushed around the single-screen levels. The goal of the game is to cause the inflatable enemies to bounce around the levels to defeat other foes. Additionally, you can also use foosball bumpers that can be found inexplicably everywhere. It seems more complex than rolling around enemy balls in Tumblepop, but it’s actually the opposite. There is also a new trick in the form of a slot machine that can be activated by collecting certain special coins: getting three symbols in a row allows many bonus items to appear, and three 7s take you to a bonus stage. Writing about home is not something.
